Ponds and wetlands are declining rapidly, along with it, many of our insects. This miniature ‘habitat’ holds a Golden Ringed Dragonfly, Great Diving Beetle, Water Boatman and Frogbit pond leaves, all of which can be seen in ponds and wetlands around the British Isles. These insects and leaves are interdependent of each other and help to keep a healthy ecosystem.

The three handmade brooches can be worn individually, together, or simply placed and viewed in their ‘habitat’ as a way to reconnect with nature.

With sustainable design in mind, these pieces are all hand formed (not cast), reducing the amount of unnecessary metal, whilst keeping carbon emissions at a minimum. Each strip of gold is individually cut and fused to the silver through an ancient Korean technique known as ‘Keum-boo’. The Frogbit leaves have been constructed with sterling silver and vibrant vitreous enamel.

The dome base has been hand lathed from reclaimed Sapele wood.

  • Silver and gold pieces can be washed gently in warm soapy water, do not scrub the piece as it will affect the matt finish.

Dry the piece thoroughly with a soft cloth.

Enamelled pieces can be washed with warm soapy water if they become discoloured.

Vitreous enamel is glass and although it is hardwearing, care should be taken not to apply force or scratch the surface.
